Austral Alloys: Taking your design to a finished component.
Austral Alloys offers an end-to-end, collaborative service. From initial design review to final inspection and quality assurance, every step of our process is designed to manufacture the cast product that you require.
We also offer reverse engineering services to create components from worn or obsolete parts, reducing replacement costs.
-
Methoding
Using advanced 3D modelling and simulation, we engineer in consultation with you, a repeatable, high integrity component.
In this pre-production stage, we are able to make suggestions to improve quality or reduce overall manufacturing costs before commencing production.
-
Patternmaking
At our onsite Patternmaking facility, we specialise in transforming design concepts into functional pattern equipment. Using 3D printing and CNC machining in conjunction with traditional patternmaking we produce patterns which best suit the overall production process.
We provide cost-effective solutions tailored to each project.
-
Moulding
Moulding is a critical step in producing high-quality castings.
We use advanced cold box and resin-coated binder systems, delivering repeatable mould quality.
Our sand reclamation facility reduces sand disposal by over 50%.
-
Melting & Pouring
We continue the tradition of metal recycling by purchasing segregated scrap material from certified metal recyclers. Our expert metallurgists blend and alloy our melts to achieve precise chemical compositions for each casting.
Our 500kW Inductotherm Power-Trak® High Frequency Induction Furnace, with capacities up to 2000kg per melt gives the required flexibility to manufacture and pour over 300 different metals.
Before pouring, every melt is chemically certified using our Spectromax Optical Emission Spectrometer.
In partnership with Foseco Australia, Austral Alloys pioneered the use of argon purging melts with ceramic diffuser technology, producing cleaner castings with lower oxide levels and improved strengths.
-
Fetting & Shot Blasting
After pouring, castings are shot blasting to remove adhered sand. The pouring system and risers are removed and recycled back into our melting furnaces.
Hand grinders and pedestal grinders are used to achieve the required net casting.
-
Heat Treatment
All steel castings undergo heat treatment to achieve the necessary metallurgical properties before shipment. Our in-house heat treatment services include:
- Normalising of Steel
- Annealing of Steels
- Stress Relief Annealing of Irons and Steels
- Quench and Tempering of Steels
- Solution Annealing of Stainless Steels
- Precipitation Hardening of Stainless SteelsWe operate four electric heat treatment furnaces, all equipped with calibrated temperature control and continuous data logging.
