Heat Treatment of Castings

All steel castings require a thermal treatment before being rendered fit for service.

The basic Heat Treatment Processes we routinely carry out are:

Normalising of Steel

Annealing of Steels

Stress Relief Annealing of Irons and Steels

Quench and  Tempering of Steels

Solution Annealing of Stainless Steels

Austral Alloys have three electric heat treatment furnaces all provided with State of the Art computerised digital programmable multi sequence controllers, Solid State Thyristor Power switching  and quench facilities.

One furnace is a Silicon Carbide "Glow Bar" unit capable of 1250 deg C.

The another, of the same size, uses electric resistant element

heating and fan circulation for accurate low temperature

tempering of alloy steels and for stress relief annealing.

A larger 120 KW  5 cubic Metre walking beam furnace is rated to 1150 deg C and is used for Steel Normalising, Steel Annealing and for the Solution Treatment of Stainless Steels.  Vitreous enamelling is carried out in this larger furnace at about 750 deg C.
