FETTLING & SHOT BLASTING

After pouring, castings are removed from the mould when they have cooled to the correct temperature.

Each mould is only used once as the mould is designed to break down once the casting has solidified, allowing the casting to contract freely. Spent moulds are recycled into road base, concrete products or potting mix.

The raw castings are shot blasted to remove adhered sand prior to the removal of the running system and the risers using high frequency grinders, Oxy-Acetylene and Thermic Lance techniques. The runners and risers are segregated and carefully identified for recycling back into our melting furnaces.

Hand and pedestal grinders are used to complete final metal removal from the casting before its final heat treatment and shot blasting.
